About this opportunity
Reality Capture Specialist (LiDAR + Drone) — Independent Contractor
Company: M Hudson Design, Inc.
Location: Primarily Palm Beach County, Florida; on-site availability required
Engagement type: Independent contractor, not an employee
Compensation/rate: To be determined
Role Overview
M Hudson Design, Inc., a luxury landscape architecture firm, is seeking an experienced Reality Capture Specialist to document large estate-style residential properties using terrestrial LiDAR and aerial drone capture.
The purpose of this work is to provide complete existing-conditions documentation that supports landscape architectural design. We are looking for a practitioner with demonstrated experience taking a site from field capture through registration and delivery of registered point clouds. General drone photography experience alone is not sufficient.
This work calls for reliable execution, thorough site coverage, and discretion when working on private estates.
Responsibilities
- Perform ground-based LiDAR scanning using a **Leica BLK360**, together with aerial drone capture, to document estate properties from property line to property line.
- Capture terrain and grades, trees and planting, buildings, hardscape, pools, walls, and site furnishings.
- Include a small amount of contextual overlap beyond property edges where authorized and appropriate. Access to neighboring property requires permission.
- Carry the work through point-cloud registration and deliver registered point clouds representing the captured existing conditions.
- Capture aerial photogrammetry suitable for downstream **Gaussian splat** model development. Producing the finished Gaussian splat model is not required.
- Execute fieldwork reliably and maintain discretion on private residential properties.
The scope is **existing-conditions documentation, not a legal boundary survey**.
Required Qualifications
The following four requirements are non-negotiable:
1. Palm Beach County on-site availability. You must be available to perform fieldwork locally. Palm Beach County residency is not required.
2. Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
3. Leica BLK360 availability. You must have a Leica BLK360 LiDAR scanner available for the work.
4. Demonstrated field-to-registered-point-cloud experience. You must have a hands-on understanding of point clouds and practical experience performing field capture, registration, and delivery of registered point clouds. Familiarity with terminology alone is insufficient.
Additional required experience: Capturing aerial photogrammetry suitable for downstream Gaussian splat model development. This requirement concerns capturing suitable imagery—not producing the finished model.
Preferred Qualification
Ability to create finished **Gaussian splat models** is a plus, not a screening requirement. Examples are welcome if available; applicants without finished Gaussian splat examples may still qualify.
Compensation and Engagement
This is an **independent-contractor engagement**, not an employee position. Compensation/rate is to be determined.
Your materials should demonstrate:
- Estate-scale or comparable site capture.
- Aerial photogrammetry.
- Registered point clouds.
In your email, please identify the scanner you will have available, briefly describe your field-capture-to-registration workflow, and confirm your availability for on-site work in Palm Beach County and your FAA Part 107 certification.
Finished Gaussian splat model examples are welcome if available, but are not required.
