About this opportunity
ASIC Technical Lead – Analog & Mixed-Signal IC Design
Location: San Diego, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Base Salary: $180,000–$220,000 annually + equity
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with an innovative neurotechnology company developing advanced implantable electronics and next-generation brain-computer interface technology.
We are seeking an experienced ASIC Technical Lead to take technical ownership of a custom, high-channel-count neural recording ASIC being developed in collaboration with an external semiconductor design partner.
This role requires a technically accomplished analog or mixed-signal IC engineer who can independently evaluate design quality, challenge technical assumptions, and ensure successful silicon delivery.
The ideal candidate has personally participated in at least one complete ASIC development cycle, including tapeout, and has the technical depth to lead architecture reviews, verification decisions, and silicon bring-up investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and maintain technical requirements and specifications for a custom analog/mixed-signal ASIC.
- Lead architecture, block-level, top-level, and pre-tapeout design reviews with external IC design partners.
- Independently evaluate schematics, simulation results, netlists, and design verification evidence.
- Review SPICE/Cadence simulations, DRC/LVS results, and DFT strategies.
- Establish and manage tapeout readiness criteria, technical risks, and design sign-off decisions.
- Evaluate analog performance, including noise, power consumption, channel matching, and process variation.
- Collaborate with test engineers during first-silicon bring-up and characterization.
- Lead root-cause investigations for silicon performance issues and determine corrective actions.
- Coordinate technical reviews and verification plans for potential silicon respins.
- Support engineering change orders, risk management, and next-generation ASIC architecture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 5+ years of ASIC/SoC design and development experience.
- At least one completed ASIC development cycle from concept through tapeout and silicon.
- Strong analog or mixed-signal IC design or verification background.
- Experience reviewing transistor-level schematics, circuit simulations, and design verification results.
- Working knowledge of Cadence, SPICE, DRC/LVS, and DFT concepts.
- Experience collaborating with external IC design partners, semiconductor foundries, or fabrication teams.
- Ability to identify design risks, challenge technical assumptions, and lead engineering decisions.
- Strong technical communication, documentation, and cross-functional leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with low-noise analog front ends, instrumentation amplifiers, or ADC architectures.
- Experience with high-channel-count signal acquisition ASICs.
- Previous technical leadership of custom silicon development programs.
- Experience in biomedical electronics, implantable medical devices, or neurotechnology.
- Familiarity with medical device design controls and regulatory documentation.
- Experience with silicon characterization, failure analysis, and respins.
Compensation
$180,000–$220,000 annual base salary, plus stock options or restricted stock units.
If you have successfully delivered custom silicon and are excited by the opportunity to take technical ownership of advanced semiconductor technology with meaningful applications, let's connect.
