About this opportunity

AFE Test & Integration Engineer – Analog Electronics

Location: San Diego, CA

Employment Type: Full-Time

Base Salary: $100,000–$135,000 annually + equity

About the Opportunity

We are working with an innovative medical technology company developing next-generation implantable electronics and brain-computer interface systems.

We are seeking an AFE Test & Integration Engineer to support the validation and characterization of advanced analog front-end (AFE) semiconductor technology used in neural signal acquisition.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an early-career engineer, recent graduate, or research-focused candidate with strong analog electronics fundamentals who wants to gain hands-on experience in semiconductor testing and biomedical technology.

Professional industry experience is not required. Relevant academic research, thesis work, internships, and laboratory projects will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, assemble, and maintain laboratory test setups for analog front-end ASIC characterization.
  • Support first-silicon bring-up, electrical testing, and performance validation.
  • Measure analog circuit performance, including noise floor, input-referred noise, CMRR, power consumption, and channel crosstalk.
  • Work with oscilloscopes, signal generators, source-measure units, and other electronic test equipment.
  • Develop and execute structured test plans and measurement protocols.
  • Use Python or MATLAB for data analysis, visualization, and test automation.
  • Support integration testing of ASICs with neural recording electrodes and electronic subsystems.
  • Analyze test results, identify performance deviations, and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Document experimental results and produce engineering characterization reports.
  • Collaborate with senior ASIC and electrical engineering teams to improve test coverage and reliability.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
  • Academic, research, internship, or professional experience with analog front-end circuits, low-noise amplifiers, instrumentation amplifiers, or ADC architectures.
  • Strong understanding of analog electronics, circuit fundamentals, and signal measurement.
  • Familiarity with electrode-tissue interfaces, biopotential signals, or related biomedical instrumentation concepts.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience using oscilloscopes, signal generators, and electronic measurement equipment.
  • Experience using Python or MATLAB for engineering analysis or test automation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research or thesis work involving analog IC design, neural recording, or biomedical electronics.
  • Experience with chopper-stabilized amplifiers, SAR ADCs, or delta-sigma converters.
  • Familiarity with noise measurements, CMRR, crosstalk, and low-noise signal acquisition.
  • Exposure to ASIC characterization or semiconductor testing.
  • Experience with electrode impedance measurements or equivalent circuit modeling.
  • Interest in implantable medical devices and neurotechnology.

Compensation

$100,000–$135,000 annual base salary, plus stock options or restricted stock units.

Whether you're an experienced laboratory engineer or a recent graduate with strong analog electronics research experience, we'd love to hear from you.
