Senior Accountant

JCW is recruiting for a leading insurance carrier seeking a Senior Accountant to join its corporate accounting team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants exposure to a large, complex insurance balance sheet while working closely with senior finance leadership. The role is based in Manhattan.

What You’ll Do:

• Own key parts of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Support reporting on insurance-specific balances such as loss reserves, unearned premium, reinsurance recoverables, and ceded activity
• Help prepare GAAP and statutory financial statements and supporting schedules
• Analyze fluctuations and explain results to management
• Partner with actuarial, underwriting, and FP&A teams to make sure the numbers tie out
• Support external audit and regulatory requests
• Identify opportunities to tighten processes and improve controls

What They’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA or progress toward it preferred
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally within insurance or public accounting with insurance clients
• Working knowledge of US GAAP; statutory (SAP) experience a plus
• Strong Excel skills; experience with large ERPs (Oracle, SAP, Workday) helpful
• Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing deadlines during close
• Clear communicator who works well across teams
