About this opportunity

About HYB Industrial

HYB Industrial Inc. is a New York–based chemical trading and industrial procurement company. We connect Asia-Pacific chemical manufacturers with buyers in the United States, and we source laboratory and industrial equipment for clients abroad. We run import/export, regulatory compliance, and market development from our new office at 45 Rockefeller Plaza, backed by decades of supplier relationships in Asia's chemical industry.

The role

We recently opened our New York office and are hiring 2–3 new graduates to expand our US business. You'll work across both sides of the trade, identifying markets and winning customers, alongside the founders on live deals from first research to delivery. You'll take on real responsibility early, with direct exposure to international sourcing, pricing, and negotiation that would take years to reach at a large distributor.

This is a commercial role, not a lab role. You’ll use technical knowledge to read specs, size markets, and sell — not to run experiments.

Our New York office focuses on importing and distributing chemical products in the US. HYB also supplies laboratory and industrial equipment to clients overseas, and you'll have the opportunity to work on those deals with our founders: sourcing from manufacturers, matching technical specifications, and coordinating export logistics.

Starting salary range: $48,000–$55,000 per year, plus performance bonus and commission.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate products technically: read specifications and certificates of analysis (COAs), understand grade differences (food vs. technical grade, FCC/USP), and match products to customer applications
  • Size markets using trade and customs data: who imports what, from where, in what volumes, and at what implied prices
  • Track price drivers and market cycles: raw-material and energy costs, Asian production capacity and export pricing, freight, tariffs and anti-dumping duties, exchange rates, and seasonal demand
  • Prospect and win US buyers (food producers, manufacturers, distributors) by phone, email, LinkedIn, and in person
  • Work trade shows, run customer meetings, prepare quotes, and help negotiate terms. Expect roughly 20–30 travel days per year to industry events such as SupplySide.
  • Use market and price trends to time pitches and advise customers on when to buy
  • Support regulatory documentation for food ingredients and chemicals (FDA, TSCA) with our compliance team
  • Coordinate with suppliers and partners across Asia

Who we're looking for

  • BA, BS, or MS in chemistry, chemical engineering, food science, economics, business, supply chain, or a related field. Chemistry coursework or a real interest in how chemicals are made and traded is a strong plus. Recent and upcoming (Dec 2024/ May 2025/ Dec 2026 / May 2027) graduates welcome
  • Fluent professional English, written and spoken
  • Real interest in the business side of chemistry: markets, sales, and trade
  • Comfortable in Excel and with messy data
  • Coursework or internships in international trade, supply chain, or sales are a plus
  • Mandarin Chinese is a plus, not required

Further details

  • On-site at 45 Rockefeller Plaza, Manhattan; remote only in exceptional circumstances
  • Full-time W-2, standard 40-hour week
  • Health insurance and paid time off
  • Must be authorized to work in the US. We do not sponsor visas, but candidates on OPT or STEM OPT are welcome.
  • Current students: we also offer part-time roles (15–20 hrs/week during the semester). Mention this on your application.

To apply (to show us you read the entire post):

  1. A New Jersey bakery has bought potassium sorbate from the same distributor for six years. We can offer the same spec for 5% less, in stock in Newark, 30-day terms. Why might their purchasing manager still say no — and what's the first thing you'd do about it?
  2. Read this posting again. What's one thing in it you'd push back on — a claim, a requirement, a number — and why?

If you're a current student interested in part-time, say so in your answer please.
