Employment Counsel - Hedge Fund

We are advising a premier, multi-billion-dollar hedge fund in New York City in the search for a senior Employment Counsel to join its in-house Legal Department.

This role offers the opportunity to serve as a trusted advisor to the business in a highly sophisticated, performance-driven investment environment. The successful candidate will operate at the intersection of legal risk management, regulatory awareness, and strategic talent stewardship. Position is based in the New York office five days per week.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and day-to-day counsel on the full spectrum of U.S. employment law matters, including hiring, terminations, compensation structures, benefits, accommodations, policy development, and workforce risk mitigation
• Advise senior leadership and HR on complex employee relations issues, sensitive investigations, and performance management matters
• Draft, review, and negotiate executive employment agreements, restrictive covenant arrangements, deferred compensation documentation, and separation agreements
• Partner closely with Compliance and senior management on regulatory considerations impacting personnel decisions within a highly regulated financial services framework
• Oversee employment-related litigation, arbitrations, and agency proceedings, managing outside counsel with a focus on efficiency and outcome optimization
• Contribute to global mobility and cross-border employment initiatives as applicable

Qualifications

• J.D. from a top-tier law school
• 5–9 years of employment law experience, ideally from a major law firm training or financial services business
