Associate Attorney

Junior Litigation Associate | Mattiace Legal LLC | Remote (New York or New Jersey preferred)

Full-time | $95,000 to $135,000 base salary depending on experience

Mattiace Legal is a virtual boutique law firm serving business owners, executives, and families in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. We handle commercial and employment litigation, serve as outside general counsel to small and midsize businesses, and do estate planning. We aim to give clients large-firm quality along with the responsiveness and personal attention a boutique can offer.

We are looking for a junior litigation associate with up to four years of experience. If you have experience, training from a larger firm is a plus. The work is litigation first, including drafting pleadings and motions, running discovery, taking and defending depositions, and appearing in court as your experience allows. You will work directly with clients from the start. As client needs come up, you will also work in our employment, business counseling, and estate planning practices. We see that breadth as a real opportunity to grow as a lawyer and to find the area where you want to build your own practice.

We hire for drive and ability, not pedigree. We consider education, grades, and experience as part of the full picture, but there is no GPA or class rank cutoff. We are looking for a self-starter who thinks independently, learns quickly, and enjoys working with clients and colleagues. Business development is also part of the role. You will join a networking group and, over time, build your own client base in the practice areas that interest you, with the firm's support.

We want an attorney who is committed to using the AI tools we provide to serve clients efficiently and to grow their practice, while always following the ethical and professional responsibility rules that govern our work, including competence, confidentiality, and independent verification of everything that leaves the firm.

I started this firm after leaving Big Law because I wanted to build a different kind of place to practice. We trust people to run their matters and own their results, we value honest discussion over polite agreement, and we fix problems by improving systems rather than assigning blame. We are family-centered and work primarily remotely, with a focus on deliverables rather than face time. We meet weekly as a team, set aside the first Friday of each month for learning and improvement, and each quarter the team reviews my leadership as well.

What we offer includes a base salary of $95,000 to $135,000 depending on experience, firm-paid bar dues, CLE, and Westlaw, a structured onboarding plan with a clear scorecard, mentorship from a litigator trained in Big Law, and a performance-based path to senior associate, practice leadership, and partnership consideration. We are a growing firm still building our benefits program, and we will go over current benefits in detail with candidates during the interview process.

What you need is admission in New York or New Jersey, or a clear path to admission (both preferred), strong research and writing skills, familiarity with the CPLR or New Jersey Court Rules and e-filing or the drive to learn them quickly, and a track record that shows your work ethic, whether that is working through school, a prior career, or something else you are proud of.
