About this opportunity

A highly regarded litigation firm is seeking a Junior Associate (Class of 2023/2024) to join its growing Consumer Protection and Data Privacy practice in New York City.

The practice handles sophisticated disputes involving areas such as data breaches, sensitive personal information, biometric privacy, consumer technology, online tracking, smart devices, and other rapidly developing privacy and consumer-protection issues. Associates have the opportunity to see how complex class actions are developed from the initial investigation and case theory through discovery, depositions, dispositive motion practice, settlement, and trial.

This is an opportunity for an early-career litigator to build experience in a developing area of the law. The group handles complex, high-profile litigation involving emerging technology and privacy issues, and the incoming associate will work as part of a lean team with substantial exposure to senior attorneys and the broader lifecycle of a case.

Responsibilities

  • Draft complaints, briefs, and other substantive filings
  • Research and evaluate potential new cases and emerging legal theories
  • Conduct factual investigations
  • Review privacy policies, terms of service, and arbitration provisions
  • Assist in developing litigation strategy
  • Handle written discovery, including document requests, interrogatories, requests to admit, and deposition notices
  • Prepare for, take, and defend depositions
  • Communicate with clients and co-counsel
  • Participate in trial preparation and attendance
  • Assist with mediation and settlement strategy

Qualifications

  • J.D. and New York Bar admission required
  • Targeting Class of 2023 or 2024, with some flexibility based on experience
  • Relevant experience in data privacy, consumer protection, cybersecurity, class action litigation, or a closely related litigation practice
  • Genuine interest in building a practice around evolving privacy, technology, and consumer-protection issues

Compensation & Schedule

  • Class of 2023: $165,000 base salary
  • Class of 2024: $160,000 base salary
  • Year-end bonus based on individual performance and firm success; bonuses for attorneys at these class years may be $50,000+
  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office / 2 days remote
  • New York City office
  • Comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), short- and long-term disability coverage, technology reimbursement, and student-loan reimbursement
