About this opportunity
eDiscovery Director, New York
A global law firm is hiring a U.S. eDiscovery Director to be the senior technical and advisory voice of its in-house eDiscovery team in the US. The team runs as its own profit center and delivers eDiscovery and data services to the Global Disputes practice, other practice groups and the firm’s clients directly, without relying on outside vendors.
This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who partners respect and who has deep, recent experience in Relativity. You’d be the go-to expert on Relativity, aiR and generative AI in discovery, and you’d work directly with partners and clients to shape strategy and grow the business. There’s no line management: the team’s existing managers handle people management, so you can focus entirely on high-value work.
The firm welcomes current Directors and senior managers who are ready to step up to Director level.
Responsibilities of an eDiscovery Director:
- Build trusted relationships with partners and external clients, and help grow the eDiscovery business by advising on and pitching the team’s services
- Provide expert guidance on technology, including generative AI, for culling data, reviewing documents and identifying key information
- Design and implement efficient, defensible workflows for investigations, discovery, cyber and other client data matters
- Advise on data collection scope and method, including the use of third-party forensic providers
- Evaluate, test and implement new technologies
- Design and deliver education sessions for the firm’s global network, and produce presentations and thought leadership for internal and external marketing
- Improve best practices and share knowledge across the global eDiscovery team, including peers in EMEA and APAC
- Anticipate and address business risk
Requirements of an eDiscovery Director:
- Extensive eDiscovery experience, typically 12+ years, in a law firm or comparable professional services environment
- The presence and credibility to advise partners and senior clients directly
- Extensive, recent hands-on Relativity experience. Relativity Master is preferred but not required: a Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA) credential or equivalent Relativity expertise is also considered
- Experience with Relativity aiR and generative AI in review workflows
- A deep understanding of forensic data collection tools and techniques, and of the IT platforms typically involved in discovery
- Command of the FRCP and relevant regulatory rules
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize across concurrent matters
- Flexibility to work beyond office hours on occasion, and to travel to other offices
- A degree in Law, Computer Science or a related discipline is an advantage
