About this opportunity
LHH has partnered with a growing, private equity-backed healthcare organization that is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its accounting function and partner closely with the CFO during an important period of transformation.
This is an opportunity for a leader who enjoys building and improving rather than simply maintaining. The Controller will inherit an established accounting team and have meaningful influence over the close process, financial reporting, controls, systems, and overall effectiveness of the function.
Just as important as technical expertise is leadership style. The ideal candidate brings strong judgment and emotional intelligence, knows how to create accountability while developing people, and has experience guiding teams through growth, change, or operational challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a multi-level accounting organization of approximately 15-18 professionals, developing talent and establishing a collaborative, accountable team culture.
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close and consolidated financial reporting across a complex, multi-entity organization.
- Assess current accounting workflows and drive improvements designed to shorten close timelines, improve controls, and create more sustainable processes.
- Oversee core accounting activities, including general ledger, intercompany accounting, AP, payroll accounting, and fixed assets.
- Serve as a technical accounting leader on matters including acquisitions, revenue recognition, lease accounting, and consolidations.
- Lead the annual audit and coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and other financial partners.
- Partner with finance leadership on cash management, liquidity, lender reporting, covenant compliance, and working capital.
- Support acquisition diligence, purchase accounting, and integration of acquired businesses.
- Evaluate and improve the use of NetSuite and related systems, including opportunities for automation and better reporting.
- Serve as a trusted partner to the CFO and broader leadership team on financial and operational initiatives.
The underlying role carries broad oversight across accounting, reporting, treasury, lender compliance, audit, acquisitions, and process improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 12+ years of progressive accounting experience with meaningful Controller, Assistant Controller, or comparable leadership responsibility.
- Experience within a private equity-backed organization, particularly one undergoing growth, integration, restructuring, or operational change, strongly preferred.
- Healthcare experience preferred; pharmacy, healthcare services, or other complex multi-entity healthcare environments are particularly attractive.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, consolidations, technical accounting, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing accounting teams through periods of change.
- Experience improving close, controls, systems, and accounting processes.
- Familiarity with NetSuite, Oracle, or similar ERP environments; implementation or optimization experience is a plus.
- Exposure to acquisitions, integrations, lender reporting, and leveraged environments preferred.
- CPA preferred, but not required for a candidate with the appropriate technical accounting and leadership experience.
