About this opportunity
About the role
Tone Deaf Studios is looking for a Content Intern to work closely with the founder and support the image-making and content needs of a growing independent fashion brand in New York City.
You will contribute to content development before and throughout each season, assisting with shoot production, capturing photographs and footage, editing, retouching, color grading, and maintaining an organized content archive.
A key part of this role is knowing how to get the most out of each opportunity. At a fitting, that might mean suggesting and executing a simple content concept. At a campaign shoot, it might mean capturing behind-the-scenes footage, making iPhone videos, or using Polaroids to create another perspective. You should be able to recognize what is possible with the time, people, and equipment available, then act on it.
We are looking for someone who can help turn one shoot into a range of compelling material that supports the brand over the course of a season. That requires taste, resourcefulness, speed, and an interest in experimenting with different formats and approaches.
This is an early-career role with room to learn through direct work and feedback. You should already have strong editing fundamentals and feel comfortable moving an assignment forward independently.
Proficiency in both photo and video editing, an understanding of color grading and retouching, and strong file management skills are essential.

- A fundamental understanding of color correction, color grading, and photographic retouching.
- A portfolio demonstrating both photo and video editing ability.
- Strong file management habits and attention to detail.
- A thoughtful visual eye, with attention to composition, pacing, color, texture, and detail.
- An understanding of the fashion landscape, including high fashion and New York City’s underground and independent fashion communities.
- Comfort capturing photo and video content and experimenting with different tools and formats.
- The ability to recognize a content opportunity, propose an idea, and execute it with the resources available.
- An understanding of how to extend the usefulness of a shoot through different perspectives, formats, and edits.
- Curiosity about image-making and the ability to test ideas quickly, learn from unsuccessful attempts, and keep improving.
- Comfort working independently in the studio and taking responsibility for assigned work.
Previous professional experience is helpful, but it is not required. Personal projects, student work, and independent collaborations are welcome.
How we work
Tone Deaf is a small, independent company. You will work directly with the founder, and priorities may shift as collections, shoots, and launches develop.

- Is resourceful and comfortable making decisions on the fly.
- Takes direct feedback well and applies it thoughtfully.
- Communicates early when something is unclear or a deadline is at risk.
- Brings care to both creative work and the organization that supports it.

You will learn how content supports a fashion brand throughout a season, from early visual exploration and shoot preparation to editing and releasing finished work. We expect questions, experimentation, care, and steady improvement.
Your portfolio must demonstrate both photo and video editing ability. Applications without a portfolio will not be reviewed.
