About this opportunity
Exciting Controller role! This role combines day-to-day accounting ownership with broader financial leadership. We are looking for someone who is comfortable operating both strategically and tactically — a leader who can oversee financial operations, support decision-making, improve processes, and still stay close to the work when needed.

In this role you will-
- Direct and participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and maintain integrity of the general ledger
- Prepare internal financial statements, management reports, budgets, and forecasts
- Monitor cash flow, banking activity, liquidity, and internal financial controls
- Oversee tax matters, including Hawaii General Excise Tax (GET), and coordinate with outside advisors as appropriate
- Partner with operations and project leadership to analyze job performance, profitability, cost trends, and financial risk
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff
- Identify and implement improvements in systems, workflows, and internal processes
- Support insurance administration and surety/bonding requirements, or develop expertise in these areas
- Explore practical applications for automation and AI tools to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy
- Participate in long-range planning and support executive leadership with financial insights
Qualifications
- A Controller with at least 5 years of experience
- A CPA with at least 5 years of public accounting experience who is interested in moving into an internal accounting leadership role
- Strong technical accounting and finance foundation
- Experience with financial reporting, tax compliance, payroll, cash management, and internal controls
- Knowledge of Hawaii GET strongly preferred
- Ability to lead while remaining hands-on in the accounting function
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational leaders
- Demonstrated judgment, leadership presence, and ability to manage change
