About this opportunity
Audit Manager
CPA required | Hybrid | Partnership available
What would you like your next few years in public accounting to look like?
Perhaps you want to become a Partner. Or perhaps you enjoy managing audits, being the person clients call and helping less experienced colleagues find their feet, without wanting ownership.
This firm of around 25 people is open to both. There’s a succession opportunity over the next three to five years for someone who wants it, and room to stay at Manager level if that’s where you’re happiest.
You’ll work closely with the Partners and get to know the whole team. If you’ve got ideas about how an engagement could run better or how to help someone progress, you’ll be close enough to the people making those decisions to talk them through.
You’ll lead audit engagements, review financial statements and be someone colleagues can turn to for guidance. The clients are mainly closely held and family owned businesses across the Midwest, including manufacturing and construction companies, typically with revenues of $20m to $75m.
You’ll spend time with the owners and understand what they’re working towards. That could mean growing the business, involving the next generation or preparing for what comes next. Getting to know them beyond the annual audit is part of the job.
It’s hybrid, but you’ll need to enjoy spending time in the office with your colleagues. If you like being able to pull up a chair, talk something through and help someone get their head around a problem, you’ll appreciate the smaller team.
The hours are around 55 to 65 during busy season and 35 to 40 outside it, with the office closed on Fridays during the summer.
Then there’s their Dream Manager programme. Each year, you earn a fund equivalent to 2% of your gross income towards something you’ve wanted to do.
One colleague hiked the Inca Trail and explored the Amazon. Another took his dad to Rome for the Ryder Cup. Yours could be something completely different. It’s funding and encouragement to get it off the wishlist.
You’ll need a CPA, around eight to ten years in public accounting, and experience managing audits and reviewing financial statements. You’ll also enjoy building client relationships, helping colleagues develop and contributing to a smaller team.
