About this opportunity

Research Assistants

Plural is looking for Research Assistants to join the team for November 2026 to

February 2027. Positions are unpaid, remote and flexible.

About Plural: Plural (plural.lat) is a platform for research, analysis, and reform, focused on building better political parties in Latin America. Our work combines political analysis, data collection, and accessible public outputs—including country dashboards, short explainers, and policy-oriented content. Plural’s focus is on advancing the study and analysis of political parties and party systems across the region.

The role: Research Assistants work on Plural’s data and publications. We welcome applicants at different career stages, from students to experienced researchers. Roles are matched to experience and country expertise after selection. This is a part-time, unpaid position (a few hours per week) with a high degree of flexibility. We work with bi-weekly goals rather than fixed hours, making this role compatible with academic and professional schedules.

Depending on profile, work may include:

● Researching and coding new country profiles for the dashboard (party data, election results,

legislative composition, international affiliations)

● Contributing to or leading a country report on a party system

● Supporting Plural’s policy papers and short analysis pieces

● Turning research into briefs, one-pagers and social media posts

We are looking for:

● Interest in Latin American politics, parties and elections

● Experience with open-source research, data analysis, and academic writing

● Proficiency in English; working Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred

● Country expertise is a plus (lived, academic or professional)

What we offer and how we work

● Hands-on experience with political research and data-driven analysis

● Opportunities to write original content

● Public credit for contributions on the website and related outputs

● Exposure to debates on Latin American politics, parties, and democratic institutions

● Flexible, low-intensity commitment designed to complement academic or professional work

Plural works by goals, not hours. Assistants agree on monthly deliverables, send a short weekly update (done / next / blockers) and join a bi-weekly check-in. The first deliverable is due within the first three weeks.

In your statement of interest please include the following information:

1. Interest in Plural, and which country or topic interests you most, and why? (max. 200 words)

2. Country expertise if relevant: which Latin American countries do you know well, and how (lived,

academic, professional)?

3. Experience level: undergraduate student / graduate student / early career

4. Location and time zone

5. Languages and level (Spanish, Portuguese, other)

6. Social media or design skills if relevant: tools you use and links to examples, if any (optional)

7. Realistic weekly hours you can commit for Plural
