About this opportunity

Zeughauser Group (ZG), a category-leading strategy and M&A advisory firm for law firms, is hiring a fully remote, US-based Analyst.

About Us:

We have advised more than 80% of the largest US-based law firms by revenue, including more than 10 of the 20 most profitable law firms in the world, as well as elite firms in the UK and China. In 2026 alone, we advised on the three largest law firm combinations globally, each a $1B+ transaction, including the largest law firm merger in history. In 2024, we advised on the largest US-centered law firm merger, also a $1B+ transaction.

We are trusted advisors to the chairs and boards of the world’s leading law firms, counseling them through every phase of a combination: building internal consensus, prioritizing targets, facilitating discussions, and advising on essential transaction terms based on our deep market knowledge.

About the Role:

This is a substantive analyst role supporting strategy and M&A engagements for leading law firms. You will work across multiple client matters at once, producing research, financial analysis, and client-ready presentations for firm leadership.

Prior experience in the legal sector is not required. What is essential: intellectual rigor and curiosity, strong analytical instincts, and the ability to work autonomously. The work is fast-paced, and the quality bar is high.

Analysts work directly on high-stakes client matters and contribute meaningfully to the firm’s growth and market-leading position.

Compensation: $60,000 to $75,000 base, commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus performance-based incentives and a benefits allowance.

Work authorization: Candidates must be based in the United States and currently authorized to work in the US without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy

  • Research and synthesize the competitive landscape for client engagements, including market positioning, practice area trends, and competitor intelligence.
  • Benchmark firms against competitors across financial, talent, and other metrics.
  • Distill insights from attorney interviews into clear, actionable takeaways.
  • Build clear, client-ready presentations for firm chairs and boards.

Financial Analysis

  • Analyze law firm financial statements and operational data, such as revenue per lawyer, realization rates, and partner compensation structures, to develop recommendations for firm leadership.
  • Build and maintain financial models that inform client decisions.

Mergers & Acquisitions

  • Research and evaluate potential M&A targets and suitors against client-defined criteria.
  • Develop pro forma profiles of hypothetical law firm combinations, drawing on industry databases, macroeconomic data, and proprietary market intelligence you will build over time.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis on the issues most critical to clients pursuing a transaction, helping keep deals moving.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, economics, or another analytically rigorous field.
  • Strategic Mindset: Ability to turn financial statements, industry reports, and non-public data into strategic insights and actionable takeaways.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write concise takeaways that connect the dots for senior leaders at client firms.
  • Ownership: Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple engagements with competing deadlines, and deliver accurate work under time pressure.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision and strong organizational skills.
  • Discretion: Sound judgment in handling highly confidential client data and non-public market intelligence.
  • Technical: Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred

  • One to three years of experience in strategy or management consulting or a comparable analytical role.
  • Familiarity with the business of law and law firm economics, including revenue drivers, practice-level metrics, partner compensation models, and profitability methodologies.
  • Experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools.
  • A current resume
  • A cover letter explaining why you are interested in ZG specifically and why you are a strong fit for this role
