About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controller to lead financial operations and oversee the accounting team for a growing healthcare services organization. The organization provides home healthcare and group home services to seniors and individuals with disabilities across Arizona, serving more than 500 clients with a dedicated team of approximately 600 caregivers and managers.

The Controller will manage day-to-day accounting operations, maintain strong internal controls, and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position reports directly to a part-time CFO, offering opportunities for collaboration, financial leadership, and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the internal accounting team.
• Develop, document, and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and procedures.
• Oversee accounting functions across multiple related entities, ensuring consistency and accuracy.

Accounting Operations

• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, and collections.
• Oversee payroll processing for a large workforce of caregivers and managers.
• Maintain the chart of accounts, ensure timely bank reconciliations, and manage debt schedules and covenant compliance.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure accurate, timely financial statements.
• Collaborate with the CFO on annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and variance analyses.
• Develop key performance metrics and management reports, including cost-center allocation analyses.
• Provide financial analysis to support capital investments, rate negotiations, and pricing decisions.

Compliance & External Relations

• Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax accountants, banks, and other financial institutions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal reporting requirements, including healthcare-related financial and tax filings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• At least 5–8 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Experience in home healthcare, group homes, or a Medicaid/Medicare-reimbursed healthcare environment highly preferred.
• CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
• Strong proficiency with mid-tier accounting software and advanced Excel.
• Solid understanding of cost-center allocations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team while remaining hands-on with daily accounting operations.

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based in Phoenix, Arizona.
• Occasional travel to division offices may be required.
• Full-time position, with occasional evening or weekend work during peak periods, such as year-end audits and budget cycles.

Team Structure

The Controller will supervise a team of four accounting and clerical staff and work closely with the CFO to support the organization's financial performance and operational goals.
