Role: Senior Staff Accountant

Location: North Phoenix (Deer Valley) | Hybrid

Compensation: $80,000–$90,000 + Discretionary Bonus

The Kostelic Agency is partnering exclusively once again with a growing specialty construction company to hire a Senior Staff Accountant for its North Phoenix team.

This opportunity is ideal for a developing accounting professional who wants hands-on experience, mentorship from experienced accounting leaders, and a path toward a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager position.

The Company & Opportunity

Our client is an established specialty construction contractor that has expanded into a substantial, multi-state organization through organic growth and acquisitions.

As the business continues to grow, its accounting team is looking for someone who brings a strong foundation, curiosity, and the initiative to take on increasing responsibility. You’ll report to the Arizona Regional Controller and work with accounting leaders who value development, collaboration, and process improvement.

Scope & Impact

The initial focus will be accounts payable and construction billing, helping ensure invoices, payments, and customer accounts are accurate and current. As you learn the business and demonstrate readiness, your responsibilities will expand into reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, and broader general accounting.

Where You’ll Add Value

Accounts Payable

• Process vendor and overhead invoices, ensuring accurate coding and supporting documentation.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice or payment discrepancies.
• Support timely payment runs and communicate with vendors and internal teams.

Construction Billing & Accounts Receivable

• Prepare and process customer billings, including AIA and retention billings.
• Review contracts for billing requirements and maintain supporting documentation.
• Prepare lien waivers, request supplier waivers, and update schedules of values.
• Apply customer payments, reconcile accounts, and help resolve billing discrepancies.
• Navigate customer billing portals and support accurate AR aging.

General Accounting & Development

• Support daily bank activity posting and account reconciliations.
• Assist with AP and AR aging reviews.
• Develop increasing involvement in journal entries and month-end close.
• Help maintain accurate records in Sage 300 CRE and identify opportunities to improve processes.
• Take on broader accounting responsibilities as your knowledge and experience develop.

The Build

The strongest fit will bring:

• Approximately 2–3 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally with exposure to AP, billing, AR, or reconciliations.
• Construction accounting experience, preferably with a subcontractor or specialty trade contractor.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to learn new accounting systems.
• Attention to detail, organization, and consistent follow-through.
• A willingness to start with the core responsibilities and earn broader ownership.
• Clear communication skills and comfort working independently while staying connected with the team.

An accounting or finance degree is preferred. Experience with Sage 300 CRE/Timberline, AIA billing, retention, lien waivers, or construction billing portals is a plus.
