About this opportunity

Jack Porter is seeking a Creative Writer to help tell the story of the work we design and build. Our work brings together strategy, storytelling, environmental design, fabrication and technology for collegiate and professional sports venues, university campuses, corporate headquarters and other branded environments.

This is not a traditional copywriting role. You will help write long-form Insights on the ideas shaping our industry, case studies on completed projects, social content and RFP responses for a firm whose work is physical, visual and built to last. You will be a hands-on writer responsible for helping to carry pieces from first conversation through research, drafting, revision and publication.

You will report to our Marketing Director as a 1099 contractor, working alongside our team and partnering with designers, producers and leaders across Jack Porter to turn their expertise into clear, credible stories. This role augments our team.

Unlike many contract writing roles, this is an ongoing relationship, not a one-off project. The work is not full-time and volume may shift from month to month, but we expect it to be steady, and much of it is planned well ahead of publish dates. We are looking for a seasoned practitioner who can take a brief, ask the right questions and deliver clean drafts with minimal hand-holding.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Write Jack Porter Insights, our long-form articles on branded environments, collegiate and pro sports, higher education, and experiential design. Occasionally interview our designers, producers, and leaders, and turn their thinking into publishable pieces.
  • Write case studies on completed projects, working from project teams, photography, and client outcomes.
  • Write social posts, email, web copy, capabilities materials, and one-pagers that sound like Jack Porter wherever they show up.
  • Contribute to RFP and proposal responses.
  • Partner with the Marketing Director on campaigns, content planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Keep the content calendar moving, including scheduling approved posts across platforms.
  • Edit and proof work across the team.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 4+ years of professional writing experience across marketing, content, journalism, agency, or in-house brand work.
  • A portfolio that shows range: long-form articles, marketing copy, and social content.
  • A strong eye for design. You won't be designing, but you know what good looks like and you write with layout, hierarchy, and visuals in mind.
  • You can write in a brand's voice and hold it consistently across formats.
  • You take a brief and run with it. You ask sharp questions early and turn in drafts that need polish, not rebuilds.
  • You are comfortable interviewing subject matter experts and making their expertise readable.
  • You manage your own workload and deadlines, and you are comfortable working ahead of the calendar.
  • Strong command of grammar, structure, and editing. AP style or a house style guide is second nature.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot, social scheduling tools, or similar marketing platforms.

EXTRA CREDIT

  • Experience writing about architecture, design, sports, higher education, or the built environment.
  • RFP or proposal writing experience.
  • B2B writing for design firms, agencies, or professional services.
  • Thought leadership or ghostwriting for executives.

We will not consider applications submitted without writing samples and/or portfolios due to the nature of this work.

Finalists may be asked to complete a short, paid writing assignment.
