Accounting Manager | NYC Cultural Arts Organization

A highly respected cultural arts organization with a $30 million operating budget is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who is passionate about the nonprofit sector and enjoys working in a mission-driven environment.

Location: New York City

Schedule: Hybrid, 3 days per week in the office

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
• Manage the month-end and year-end close processes
• Review and record day-to-day accounting transactions
• Assist with and provide oversight of the post-award grant accounting cycle
• Monitor and reconcile various revenue sources, including grants, contributions, and program revenue
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls
• Support audits and other financial reporting requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
• Prior accounting experience within a nonprofit organization required
• Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, including:
• Restricted and unrestricted net assets
• Net asset releases and reclassifications
• Donation and contribution accounting
• Revenue recognition
• Experience with grant accounting and post-award grant management strongly preferred
• Strong financial reporting and general ledger experience
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
