About AMTC & Associates - AMTC is a small consulting firm that helps schools, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations plan, manage, and evaluate their programs. Since 1997, we've worked with more than 40 organizations on more than 200 programs nationwide, many funded by the U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Justice.
About the Position - We're looking for a part-time Accounting/Finance Manager (25 hours per week, hybrid with 1 day per week in our Milwaukee office) to run the financial side of our firm of nine employees plus independent consultants. This role is a great fit for someone who has been the go-to finance person at a small company or nonprofit and has handled it all: the books, payroll, filings, and year-end. You'll work directly with the Principal and have the support of our outside CPA, but you should be comfortable stepping in and running things without extensive training. What You'll Do - Keep the books in QuickBooks Online, including the general ledger and monthly reconciliations - Handle accounts payable, client invoicing, and collections - Prepare budgets, forecasts, and a weekly financial update for the Principal - Run payroll for employees in multiple states, including payroll taxes, bonuses, and reimbursements - Manage year-end reporting and filings, including W-2s, 1099s, and required government filings - Administer our 401(k) and cash balance plans and track paid time off - Manage subcontractor, consultant, and vendor agreements and payments - Coordinate the annual audit and insurance renewals with our CPA and outside partners - Handle employee paperwork, including onboarding, employee records, and salary letters - Look for ways to make our processes simpler, including through technology and AI tools.
What You Bring - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field - 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, including payroll, ideally at a small company or nonprofit - Experience handling payroll tax filings and year-end reporting on your own - Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Excel - Good judgment, attention to detail, and discretion with confidential information
Nice to Have - Experience with government grants, subcontracts, or contract-based budgeting - Experience working with an outside CPA on audits
Pay $35 to $45 per hour, based on experience
