Information Technology Security Engineer

Akkodis is seeking an IT Security Engineer for a Contract job with a client in Cleveland, OH. Ideally looking for applicants with a solid background in cloud security, Microsoft security solutions and engineering ownership.

Rate Range: $45/hour to $55/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Overview

This is a hands-on security engineering role within a lean team responsible for securing and improving company's primarily Microsoft/Azure cloud environment.

Seeking a well-rounded engineer who can take ownership of security initiatives, handle escalated technical issues, and work independently across multiple areas of cloud and endpoint security.

NOT a SOC Analyst role.

The focus is on implementing, configuring, maintaining, and improving security solutions rather than primarily monitoring alerts or escalating tickets.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop, configure, and manage Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies and rules. This is one of company's biggest current priorities.

Engineer and administer security controls across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID.

Configure and improve Microsoft Defender security solutions, including Attack Surface Reduction (ASR) rules.

Implement endpoint security policies, hardening standards, and vulnerability remediation.

Evaluate and improve Microsoft Secure Score through security configuration and remediation efforts.

Support identity and access management, Conditional Access policies, and privileged access controls.

Help develop AI governance policies and implement associated security controls.

Investigate and resolve escalated security incidents and technical issues.

Support broader security initiatives involving cloud infrastructure, networking, and security policy implementation.

Required Technical Experience

4+ years of relevant information security experience, with recent hands-on cloud security engineering responsibilities.

Strong Microsoft Azure security engineering and administration experience.

Experience implementing and managing Microsoft security solutions, particularly Entra ID, Defender, and Microsoft 365 security.

Hands-on experience configuring security policies and controls, ideally including DLP, ASR rules, and endpoint hardening.

Experience managing identity and access security, including Conditional Access and MFA.

Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, Windows environments, networking, and endpoint management.

Experience independently owning security improvements or implementations rather than exclusively monitoring and responding to alerts.

Additional Experience That Would Be Valuable:

Microsoft Purview DLP.

Microsoft Sentinel, SIEM, and threat investigation.

Microsoft Intune and endpoint compliance policies.

PowerShell scripting and security automation.

Vulnerability management and remediation.

Microsoft Secure Score improvements.

AI governance and data security controls.

AWS security experience.

Microsoft security certifications.

Ideal Candidate

Someone who can hit the ground running with minimal oversight.

Company's security team is small, and priorities can change quickly, so the engineer needs to be comfortable managing multiple initiatives while remaining responsive to urgent business needs.

The ideal person takes ownership, communicates progress clearly, and knows when to ask for help or escalate an issue.

Just as importantly, they need to understand how to prioritize and stay within the scope of an assignment rather than spending unnecessary time expanding solutions beyond what's requested.

Experience working with smaller security teams and have a combination of cloud infrastructure, systems administration, and security engineering.

4+ years as a Cloud Security Engineer at Nations Lending, working with Azure security, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Security Portal, threat hunting, Conditional Access, endpoint security, compliance policies, and Secure Score improvements.

1.5+ years as a Cloud Systems Administrator, supporting cloud infrastructure, security configurations, Entra ID, endpoint policies, and automation.

Earlier IT support experience, including MFA implementation, Intune, and infrastructure troubleshooting.

Hands-on PowerShell experience for automating administrative tasks, vulnerability remediation, and deployments.

Someone who understands the underlying Microsoft/cloud infrastructure and has progressed into hands-on security engineering.

Experience with actual implementation and configuration experience.

Experience with primarily monitoring SIEM alerts, triage tickets, or escalate incidents with engineering ownership.
