About this opportunity
Now Hiring: Associate Veterinarian
Animal Hospital of Maple Valley, Maple Valley, WA
100% independently owned. 0% corporate spreadsheets.
Tired of "synergy"? Allergic to quarterly targets? Has a regional manager ever explained veterinary medicine to you?
Come work somewhere the person making decisions actually knows what a cystotomy is.
Who we are
We're an independent, small animal general practice in a busy Maple Valley plaza, which means a full schedule and never a dull day. We see dogs and cats only, so the most exotic thing you'll treat is a cat who's decided today is the day.
Our reputation speaks for itself. Even the large referral hospitals in the area send their surgeries and emergencies our way.
And because our care is affordable, more clients say "yes" to the treatment plan. That means you get to practice the medicine you were trained for, instead of watching good cases walk out the door over cost.
The medicine (this is the fun part)
If you got into this field because you love variety, you'll be right at home:
Wellness and general practice: derm, endocrine, the itchy, the thirsty, and the mysteriously vomiting
Urgent care and emergencies: keep your skills sharp and your adrenaline honest
Soft tissue surgery: spays and neuters, enterotomies (yes, we've retrieved the sock), cystotomies, and more
Orthopedics: done in-house by one of our vets, so you can learn and grow without referring everything out
You won't be stuck doing the same three appointments on repeat. You'll practice real medicine.
The schedule (yes, you get a real lunch)
Four 10-hour days, full time. That's three full days off every week, plus you'll rarely give up a Saturday.
Weekdays: Appointments from 8:30 to 5, with a protected lunch from 1 to 2. Not a granola bar between appointments. An actual lunch.
Three doctors every weekday: two seeing appointments and one dedicated to surgery and dentals. Nobody is trying to squeeze in an enterotomy between vaccine visits.
Saturdays: Covered by one of our doctors who actually likes working them. The rest of us fill in only rarely.
No overnights. When we close, you go home.
The pay (the part you scrolled down for)
Base salary of $100,000 to $120,000, plus 20% commission. Most of our doctors earn well over $200,000 a year.
100% paid health, dental, and vision, starting on your first day. Not after 90 days. Day one.
Three weeks of paid vacation
$2,500 CE allowance
We pay for your WA veterinary license, DEA license, AVMA membership, and professional liability insurance
Pet care at cost, with zero markup, because your pets deserve the good stuff too
What we're looking for
DVM/VMD with a Washington license (or eligibility)
3+ years of experience preferred, but motivated new grads are welcome to apply. We love teaching.
Confidence in general practice and soft tissue surgery, or a strong desire to build it
A sense of humor, because a Labrador will eat something absurd on your watch
Bonus points if you tell us the weirdest thing you've ever pulled out of a dog.
