About this opportunity

We’re a midsized architecture and engineering firm based in New Jersey, looking for a full-time MEP Engineering Project Manager 1 to join our team. You’ll lead MEP design for mixed-use and multifamily projects from proposal through construction closeout, working closely with clients, architects, and contractors to bring each project to life. Along the way, you’ll guide and mentor staff engineers, drafters, and interns while keeping design quality, schedules, and budgets on track. We’re looking for someone who brings sound technical judgment across MEP disciplines, communicates clearly, and enjoys working through challenges as part of a collaborative team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Engineering Project Manager 1 shall be responsible to effectively execute various tasks and responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

·     Manages MEP scope on multiple concurrent mixed use, multi-family, and institutional projects from schematic design through construction administration.

·     Serves as the primary MEP contact for clients, architects, owner's representatives, and contractors, and leads the MEP portion of design and OAC meetings.

·     Sets design direction and system selections with the client and design team and documents the decisions.

·     Builds and maintains project work plans, deliverable schedules, and hours budgets, and reports status and risks to senior leadership.

·     Reviews and approves calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by staff engineers and drafters before issue.

·     Resolves complex technical and code issues across all MEP trades.

·     Manages permit filings and plan examiner responses with the authorities having jurisdiction, including NYC DOB and New Jersey local construction offices.

·     Prepares and manages utility service applications and load letters with utilities such as Con Edison and PSE&G.

·     Coordinates energy code, green building, and incentive program requirements where they apply.

·     Leads submittal and shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and change order reviews.

·     Conducts site observations, prepares field reports and punch lists, and supports project closeout.

·     Assigns and directs work for staff engineers, drafters, and interns, and balances workload against the production schedule.

·     Mentors staff on technical skills and code application.

·     Maintains client relationships that lead to repeat work and contributes to marketing materials and company design guides.

·     Assists and performs activities inside and outside the organization consistent with ethical standards described in the company handbook.
