About this opportunity
Tax Manager - NYC
There are easier ways to spend tax season. But if you’re going to do it, you may as well work somewhere the clients are interesting, the Partners know who you are, and your career isn’t governed by a spreadsheet in another state.
This is a 30 person CPA firm in Manhattan with 5 Partners and a genuinely interesting niche.
Most clients are international businesses expanding into the US, particularly within manufacturing and distribution. You’ll get heavily involved with C corporations, federal and state compliance, corporate tax and cross border matters.
It’s the sort of place where you can become genuinely valuable rather than simply becoming very efficient at completing the same bit of a return 47 times.
You’ll have direct access to Partners, proper client exposure and the chance to understand the commercial story behind the numbers. If you enjoy corporate tax and want to deepen your international experience without disappearing into a huge firm, there’s a lot to like here.
They use CCH Axcess. Italian would be a great extra, but it’s absolutely not a requirement.
Now, the bit I’m not going to dress up.
It’s 5 days in the Manhattan office. During tax season you’re looking at around 55 to 60 hours with Saturdays. Outside tax season, it drops back to around 40 hours and there’s more flexibility to work from home after April 15.
So no, it won’t suit everyone.
But if you value interesting international work, Partner access, a smaller team and the opportunity to become an important person in the firm rather than employee number 8462, I think it deserves 10 minutes of your curiosity.
Here’s the part most people get wrong: you don’t need to tick every box to introduce yourself. The apply button is not legally binding. Worst case? We chat, decide the timing isn’t right, and you carry on. Best case? You bag yourself a fantastic new position.
