About this opportunity
U.S. work authorization required (no sponsorship) - Do Not Apply if you cannot legally work in the United States without sponsorship.
Blackstone Analytics is hiring an experienced wellsite / logging geologist for a multi-year, multi-rig Powder River Basin program running at least through 2028, with follow-on work in Utah.
This is long-term 20/10 rotational work for someone who already knows PRB lithology, can run a modern logging suite, and treats tops, shows, and communication as operational decisions—not afterthoughts.
The work
The campaign mixes PRB development with higher-interest exploration wells. Development work still runs with an exploration footing: Bloodhound / Mass Spec and T-Log, careful sample examination, and tops that matter for casing and landing. Exploration wells add Mass Spec, Revochem sampling, core examination, and full logging suites.
- You will:Profile curve sections and pick formation tops that feed casing and operational calls
- Describe cuttings and shows with consistency across a hitch and a well
- Deliver clear, timely updates to operator geologists, DSMs, and directional / MWD crews
- Support geosteering with usable lithology, gas, and show context—not a lagging log dump
- Maintain equipment, sample discipline, and a clean unit / living space
This is not a “log it and leave” position. Continuity and relief quality are part of the product. You rotate with other seasoned consulting geologists. They QA, pick tops, host video calls, and stay in the loop.
Blackstone builds relationships with our operators and 3rd party assets. This drives our value proposition and reputation.
- Schedule and logistics20 days on / 10 days off
- 12-hour shifts; day and night rotate
- On-site operator skid-mount housing (functional camp housing, not a hotel)
- You provide reliable transportation and PPE; travel to the rig is not provided

- Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance
Compensation1099 independent contractor. You must work through an LLC or other legal entity. Your entity is added to our Environmental, Professional Liability, and Accident coverage.
Pay is day-rate based, with modifiers for add-on services (Mass Spec, Revochem, OBM, and similar).
Typical deposits are about $5,000–$8,500 every two weeks via ACH while the rig is active, depending on tempo and services. Days off the rotation are unpaid. You withhold your own taxes.

Who this is forBlackstone has run tailored on-site geology programs since 2011. Clients keep us because the data is timely and the communication is professional. We hire people who do not need to be managed shift-by-shift.
We supply the program, equipment, safety support, and relief structure. You bring basin judgment and clean work.
If you take pride in precise descriptions, subtle shows, accurate tops, and staying useful to the people making hole—and you want multi-year PRB rotation instead of a short call-out.
We read applications. We are adding one person to a small crew.
Our existing geologists will ultimately select who will be added to their team.
