About Us
Commercial Acoustics provides independent acoustic engineering and USA-manufactured soundproofing products to architects, contractors, and facility owners. Our Tampa headquarters houses our engineering office, in-house acoustic lab, and manufacturing floor under one roof, with regional offices in Orlando, Naples, New Orleans, and Nashville.
We supply and install soundproofing membranes and underlayments, acoustic wall panels, stretched fabric walls, ceiling clouds and baffles, diffusers, and sound masking systems. Our projects span education, healthcare, hospitality, government and civic, multi-family, office, entertainment, and worship spaces. We’re looking for a sharp, organized Project Engineer to help keep our active projects running smoothly.
The Role
As Project Engineer, you’ll support our projects from award through closeout, reporting to our Vice President, and working closely with our sales team. You’ll own the technical side of getting projects approved and ordered (product data, shop drawings, samples, and the other submittals each project’s specifications require) and manage the paperwork, pricing, and communication that keep jobs on schedule and on budget. This is an entry-level position, and we’ll train you on the specialty contracting and submittal process.
Responsibilities
- Submittals and Technical Documentation
- Review awarded project documents (signed quote, cost build-up, vendor quotes, takeoff drawings) and verify that material quantities match the latest drawing revisions, in square feet or other appropriate units
- Verify that vendor quotes match the project cost build-up in quantities, square footage, scrap and waste allowances, and labor assumptions; request re-quotes when quantities change significantly
- Assemble product data submittals with the relevant properties highlighted (color, size, thickness, NRC, etc.) and confirm they match the drawing legend and project specifications
- Create concise shop drawings from the latest drawing revision, with highlighted scope, full part descriptions, color-coded finish callouts, mounting details, penetrations, and seams
- Request and track samples from vendors for the client and our office, and save confirmations and tracking numbers
- Gather additional submittals required by the specifications, such as test reports and LEED data
- Prepare, send, and follow up on complete submittal packages, RFIs, and product approvals, including through Procore when required; turn around fast-track submittals for smaller single-scope jobs within 24 hours
- Review architect comments after approval and notify the sales team of any changes that affect cost
- Participate in our weekly submittal review meeting to push for approvals
- Change Orders and Job Costing
- Flag added, missed, or changed scope to the sales representative as possible change orders
- Draft and manage change order requests (CORs), including pricing buildups and backup documentation
- Support job costing by tracking labor hours, material costs, and budget vs. actuals across active projects
- Procurement and Coordination
- Coordinate material procurement: obtain quotes, send final procurement requests with vendor quotes and the finalized build-up, and track lead times and deliveries with suppliers
- Coordinate updated shop drawing prints when revisions occur
- Communicate regularly with general contractors, suppliers, and field crews
- Review plans, specifications, and addenda to support project setup
- Project Files and Closeout
- Maintain organized project files, submittal documentation, meeting notes, and closeout documents (O&Ms, warranties, punch lists)
- Occasionally visit job sites to verify conditions and document progress
- Qualifications
- Experience in construction, specialty contracting, or project coordination (internships and co-ops apply)
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience welcome
- Ability to read architectural drawings, finish legends, and specifications (training provided)
- Strong Excel skills; comfort learning project management software (Monday.com and Procore)
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with professional, clear business correspondence
- Exceptional attention to detail: able to catch mismatched quantities, missing colors, and unaccounted-for components before they reach the client
- Highly organized and able to juggle multiple projects and tight deadlines
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Preferred (Not Required)
- Exposure to construction, interiors, or finish trades
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Adobe, Procore, AutoCAD, or similar drawing markup and project management tools
- OSHA 10 certification
What We Offer
- Salary of $55,000 - $70,000, based on experience
- Health insurance
- Dental insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Paid time off
- Bonus eligible
- Hands-on training from company leadership
- A small, collaborative team where your work directly affects how projects run
