Accounting Manager

JCW is recruiting for a leading property and casualty insurer seeking an Accounting Manager to join its corporate finance team. This is a hands-on leadership role with visibility to senior finance leadership, ideal for someone who knows insurance accounting and wants to keep growing toward Controller-track responsibilities. The position is based in Midtown Manhattan.

What You’ll Do:

• Own key parts of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis
• Prepare and review statutory and GAAP financial reporting, including quarterly and annual statement filings
• Support accounting for premiums, losses and LAE, reinsurance, and related reserve activity
• Lead and develop a small team of staff and senior accountants
• Partner with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and FP&A to make sure the numbers tie out and tell the right story
• Serve as a point of contact for external auditors and regulatory exams
• Look for ways to tighten processes, strengthen controls, and make the close more efficient

What They’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA strongly preferred
• 5+ years of accounting experience, with a meaningful portion in P&C insurance (public accounting insurance audit experience is a plus)
• Solid working knowledge of statutory accounting and US GAAP
• Experience with reinsurance accounting and annual statement preparation
• Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff
• Strong Excel skills; ERP experience (Oracle, SAP, Workday, or similar) a plus
• Clear communicator who’s comfortable working across departments and with leadership
