About this opportunity
Litigation Attorney, Third Party Coverage | Miami, FL | $125,000 to $200,000 | Insurance Coverage (Third Party)
Allocation is where coverage lawyers earn their fee. Three insurers, overlapping policy periods, an additional insured endorsement nobody read carefully at the time and an underlying suit that's moving faster than anyone would like. Somebody has to work out who owes a defense, who owes indemnity and in what proportion. If that sentence made you more interested rather than less, read on.
I'm Ryan Jaiswal at Distinct Recruitment, and I'm recruiting a third party coverage attorney for an insurance defense firm with a Miami office. One thing upfront: this role needs existing third party coverage experience. It's not a crossover opportunity for general litigators, and it's third party coverage only, with no first party property work.
The work
• Coverage opinions on liability policies: duty to defend, duty to indemnify, exclusions, endorsements and additional insured issues
• Drafting reservation of rights and declination letters
• Declaratory judgment actions, from complaint through dispositive motions and trial
• Advising carriers on tenders, allocation and defense obligations alongside underlying litigation
• Direct client contact with coverage counsel and claims professionals
Must haves
• Florida Bar membership
• 2+ years of third party insurance coverage experience
• Strong written analysis and the ability to make a complex coverage position clear to a client in a page or two
• Senior attorneys and counsel level candidates are encouraged to apply. Experienced coverage lawyers will handle the more complex matters and help steer the practice
Where you work is your call
• Office based in Miami, hybrid or fully remote within Florida: you choose
• 1,900 billable hours a year
• Salary $125,000 to $200,000, a deliberately broad range so pay can follow experience
What makes it appealing
Coverage is a small world. Clients remember who gave them a clear answer and who gave them twelve pages of maybes. This role is for a lawyer who gives the first kind and wants the client relationships to match. If you'd like your analysis to be the thing a carrier relies on, instead of an attachment to someone else's email, this is worth a call.
