About this opportunity

DeGioia Law, PLLC is seeking an experienced Virginia-licensed attorney to join our growing estate planning practice. This is a 30-hour-per-week position designed for an attorney who can independently manage estate planning matters from the initial client meeting through execution of the final documents.

The position can be performed primarily from home, but the attorney must be available to come to our Northern Virginia office for client meetings, document signings, and other matters that require an in-person presence.

Responsibilities

The associate attorney will be expected to independently handle estate planning matters from start to finish, including:

- Conducting estate planning consultations and client meetings

- Identifying appropriate estate planning strategies based on the client's family, assets, and goals

- Drafting wills, revocable living trusts, powers of attorney, advance medical directives, and related estate planning documents

- Handling more complex planning issues as appropriate, including trusts for minor children, special needs planning, beneficiary designations, and trust funding

- Communicating directly with clients throughout the planning process

- Reviewing drafts with clients and making appropriate revisions

- Conducting or supervising estate planning signing meetings

- Advising clients regarding trust funding and implementation of their estate plans

- Managing deadlines and maintaining responsibility for assigned matters with limited supervision

Depending on experience, the attorney may also assist with probate and estate administration, special needs planning, Medicaid-related planning, disability benefits matters, high-net-worth estate planning, and planning for business owners.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

- Be an active member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar

- Have meaningful estate planning experience

- Be comfortable handling estate planning matters independently rather than requiring day-to-day supervision

- Have strong legal drafting, communication, and client-service skills

- Be organized and able to manage a caseload and deadlines in a primarily remote environment

- Be able to travel to the Northern Virginia office as needed for client meetings and signings

The following are preferred but not required:

- Experience with probate or estate administration

- Experience with special needs trusts, Medicaid planning, or public-benefits planning

- Experience handling disability benefits matters, including private disability claims and/or Social Security disability matters

- Experience with high-net-worth estate planning

- Experience advising business owners, including succession planning, closely held business interests, and coordination of business interests with estate plans

- Admission in Maryland and/or the District of Columbia

- Commission as a Virginia notary public

Schedule and Work Environment

This is a 30-hour-per-week position with a flexible schedule. The attorney may structure those hours within the firm's normal working hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., subject to client meetings, signing appointments, deadlines, and other scheduled matters.

The majority of the work may be performed remotely. The attorney must be available during scheduled client-facing times and must be able to come to the Northern Virginia office for in-person meetings and signings as needed.

We are particularly interested in an attorney who values the flexibility of a reduced-hours practice but is capable of taking real ownership of client matters.

Compensation : $70 per hour

Paid Holidays & Office Closure: The firm is closed on all federal holidays. In addition, the office closes between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and employees receive this time off with pay.
