About the Team

Repower Electric Corp  provides electrification solutions to the Ford E and F Chassis. The Systems Software and Controls team develops software architecture that makes a converted vehicle work as a complete EV. This includes control strategies, integration with the vehicle's existing electrical systems, telematics, and field diagnostics.

Engineers on the team own their projects from planning through release and work directly with Mechanical, Electrical, Supply Chain, and Service to get new features into customer vehicles.

About the Role

We are looking for a Vehicle Software and Controls Engineer to strengthen how our EV platform is connected, monitored, and diagnosed. Your initial focus will be making our working telematics solution more complete and robust, integrating vehicle CAN networks, and troubleshooting vehicles in the field, with a growing role in controls development over time.

The right person is methodical, learns quickly, and is comfortable working between the lab, the vehicle, and the keyboard.

Responsibilities

  • Expand our Vehicle Telematics System from a working solution to a complete, reliable one, including data logging, remote diagnostics, cloud data storage, and fleet reporting
  • Decode, document, and integrate CAN networks on host vehicles and EV components, including reverse engineering undocumented OEM messages and maintaining DBC databases
  • Lead root-cause investigations of field failures using CAN and data logs, software diagnostics, and hands-on measurement, particularly where electrical faults present as software symptoms
  • Develop diagnostic tools, fault codes, and troubleshooting procedures for the Service team, and feed field findings back into the design
  • Develop, test, and calibrate vehicle control strategies using model-based design in MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow, including production code generation
  • Plan and execute projects through release, working with Mechanical, Electrical, Supply Chain, and Service
  • Maintain clear documentation, including requirements, design descriptions, test results, and release notes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 2+ years of experience developing embedded, vehicle, or connected-device software
  • Working experience with the CAN 2.0 protocol (ISO 11898), including DBC files, bus logging, and decoding CAN traffic
  • Proven methodical troubleshooting of complex electrical and software systems, tracing problems from symptom to root cause
  • Hands-on experience with vehicles and lab equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and CAN interfaces
  • Proficiency in Python, C, or C++, with software version control using tools such as Git and GitHub
  • Working knowledge of control systems, including signal filtering, state machines, and PID tuning, and experience with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow
  • Understanding of fault management, including fault detection, diagnostic trouble codes, and degraded-mode strategies
  • Ability to take a project from loose requirements to a finished result, with strong written and verbal communication and a record of working well with other engineering and operations teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience reverse engineering CAN messages on an existing vehicle or system without OEM documentation
  • Experience building telematics or IoT systems, including cellular connectivity, web APIs, cloud data pipelines, and database design
  • Experience with CAN analysis tools such as Vector CANalyzer or CANoe, Kvaser CanKing, or SavvyCAN
  • Experience with SAE J1939 and UDS (ISO 14229) diagnostics
  • Experience designing controls for EV systems such as inverters, battery management, thermal management, and high-voltage contactor sequencing
  • Experience with Embedded Coder and automatic code generation from Simulink models
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 functional safety or EV charging protocols such as ISO 15118 and SAE J1772

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $90K–$115K, depending on experience, with possibility of performance-based bonuses
  • Benefits including, paid time off, health, 401(k), equity, and other benefits
