About this opportunity

Since May 2007, Thomas Law Firm, PLC has helped thousands of families stay together or reunite and helped immigrants build more secure, stable lives. We have earned a strong reputation for thorough preparation, sound legal judgment, and doing things right. We are seeking a Spanish-speaking associate who shares our passion for this work. You will work closely with founder Matthew Thomas, a respected Arizona immigration attorney with nearly two decades of experience in family-based and humanitarian immigration law. The position offers direct mentorship and the opportunity to develop your skills in case strategy, waivers, humanitarian relief, and USCIS advocacy while making a lasting difference in clients’ lives.

Our office offers a relaxed, professional atmosphere centered on careful case preparation, client counseling, and teamwork. Approximately 90% of the caseload consists of affirmative immigration applications and petitions before USCIS, with removal defense accounting for approximately 10%. This is an opportunity to build a career focused primarily on affirmative immigration practice.

Responsibilities

Manage family-based and humanitarian cases, including adjustment of status, consular processing, waivers, naturalization, U visas, and VAWA petitions.

Conduct consultations, assess eligibility, develop case strategies, and communicate with clients in Spanish and English.

Prepare and review applications, evidence, legal briefs, and responses to requests for evidence and notices of intent to deny.

Prepare clients for and represent them at USCIS interviews; handle a limited removal-defense caseload.

Guide legal staff, monitor deadlines, and maintain accurate filings and clear client communication.

Qualifications

Licensed attorney in good standing and eligible to practice before USCIS and the immigration courts.

Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required. Most clients speak only Spanish; the attorney must independently conduct consultations, explain legal options, and prepare clients in Spanish.

Experience handling family-based and humanitarian immigration matters.

Strong legal research, writing, organizational, and client communication skills, with the ability to manage cases independently and work closely with staff.

Generous Compensation and Benefits

Annual base salary of $90,000–$116,000, depending on relevant immigration experience, qualifications, and ability to manage cases independently.

Opportunity for a discretionary annual bonus.

Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.

401(k) retirement plan with employer matching contributions.

Paid vacation and sick leave, plus 11 paid holidays annually.

Payment of bar dues and continuing legal education (CLE) expenses.
