Part-Time Remote Counselor: Secondary Course Planning and NCAA Eligibility

Subject Virtual School | Remote (U.S.) | Part-Time, 20-30 hours per week | 30-35 per hour

About Subject Virtual School

Subject Virtual School (SVS) is an accredited, asynchronous-first virtual academy serving middle and high school students, including elite student-athletes training at partner athletic facilities across the country. We pair flexible, rigorous coursework with strong personal support, so students can pursue their sport without giving up their academic future.

The Role

We are looking for a part-time School Counselor to guide student-athletes and their families through course planning, graduation tracking, and the NCAA eligibility process. You will work closely with students, parents, and partner-facility staff to make sure every athlete is on track for graduation and for college placement at the Division I or Division II level.

What You Will Do

  • Complete credit evaluations and transcript analyses for incoming students, and build individualized Personal Graduation Plans (PGPs)
  • Advise students and families on secondary course selection, sequencing, and pacing, including NCAA core-course requirements
  • Monitor NCAA Eligibility Center requirements, core-course GPA, and sliding-scale benchmarks, and keep students and families informed of deadlines and changes
  • Update transcript analyses at least twice a year and verify graduation readiness for seniors each fall and spring
  • Partner with facility staff and success coaches to support student engagement, goal-setting, and executive-function skills
  • Provide academic and college-readiness counseling, including social-emotional support and escalation of well-being concerns under SVS crisis protocols
  • Respond to students, families, and partners within 24 business hours through approved communication channels
  • Document all counseling contacts, plans, and confirmations accurately

What You Will Bring

  • Degree in School Counseling or a related field (or equivalent experience); school counseling licensure or certification preferred
  • Experience with secondary (grades 6-12) course planning, graduation requirements, and transcript evaluation
  • Working knowledge of NCAA Division I and II eligibility rules, amateurism, and recruiting timelines, ideally from work with student-athletes
  • Comfort building trusting relationships with students, parents, and partner organizations entirely through remote channels
  • Strong written communication and organization, with the ability to manage a caseload independently
  • Reliable home office, internet, and the ability to work with video, email, and online learning platforms

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Student Information Systems (PowerSchool preferred)
  • Experience in virtual, hybrid, or non-traditional school settings
  • Experience supporting athletes in academies, club programs, or training facilities
  • Familiarity with NAIA, JUCO, or international athlete pathways
  • Experience with accommodations (IEP/504) in a general education setting

Details

  • Schedule: Part-time, approximately 20-30 hours per week, with flexibility to meet families across time zones
  • Caseload: Fewer than 100 students, consistent with the SVS counselor ratio of 1:100 or lower
  • Compensation: $30-$35 per hour, based on experience
  • Location: Remote; candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Terms: SVS conducts courses and enrolls students in all terms, fall, spring, and summer, and applicants should be able to work year-round.
