About this opportunity

🏗️ We're Hiring: Project Manager (K-12 / Base Build Experience) | DMV

SL Recruit is a DC-area recruiting firm focused on construction management and real estate development talent. We partner with general contractors and developers across DC, Maryland, and Virginia to connect them with experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, and construction leadership through a relationship-driven, personalized approach.

We are partnering with a well-established general contractor with active work across the DMV to find their next Project Manager. If you've led ground-up base build work in the $20M+ range and have hands-on experience delivering school projects, this one's worth a conversation.

About the Role The Project Manager will lead commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, with a focus on ground-up base build work and K-12 school construction. This is a strong opportunity for a PM who wants ownership of complex projects with a well-established contractor known for its work in the education sector.

What You'll Do

  • Manage all phases of project execution, from preconstruction and buyout through construction and closeout
  • Own project budgets, schedules, and subcontractor relationships to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery
  • Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve design and constructability issues
  • Lead project meetings, progress reporting, and client communication throughout the project lifecycle
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, and contract documentation
  • Oversee site logistics and safety compliance in coordination with field superintendents
  • Support project staffing and mentor junior project engineers/APMs

What You Bring

  • Required: Experience with a general contractor (GC-side experience required)
  • Required: Proven experience managing ground-up base build projects valued at $20M or more
  • Required: Hands-on experience delivering high school / K-12 construction projects
  • Solid understanding of contract documents, means and methods, and project financials
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage owner and subcontractor relationships
  • Proficiency with standard project management and scheduling software
