About this opportunity

Litigation Associate, Third Party Coverage | Miami, FL | $125,000 to $200,000 | Insurance Coverage (Third Party)

Which policy wins when two carriers both insist the other one is primary? If your first instinct is to pull the other insurance clauses and every endorsement before you form a view, keep reading.

I'm recruiting a third party coverage attorney for an insurance defense firm in Miami. This is a specialist role. It suits someone who already does third party coverage work, not a general litigator looking to try something new. First party property claims aren't part of it.

What the work looks like

• Analyzing coverage on third party liability claims: duty to defend, duty to indemnify, additional insured disputes, exclusions and allocation between carriers

• Drafting coverage opinions and reservation of rights letters that adjusters can actually act on

• Declaratory judgment actions, from the complaint through dispositive motions and trial

• Direct contact with carrier clients, often on the phone the same day a question comes up

What you need

• 2+ years of third party coverage experience

• Florida Bar membership

• A habit of reading the whole policy, including the forms everyone else skips

How you work

The role is posted as hybrid in Miami, but where you work is your choice: in the office, hybrid or fully remote within Florida. Billables are 1,900 hours a year.

Why it's worth a look

• Coverage teams are small, so good work gets noticed fast. The partners know who wrote the opinion that held up

• Senior coverage attorneys get the complicated allocation fights, the high limit towers and the client relationships that come with them

• The salary range is wide on purpose. $125,000 to $200,000 lets the firm pay a mid level coverage lawyer properly and pay a counsel level lawyer properly too, without forcing either into the wrong band

• A clear path to partner for people who build client trust, which in coverage happens one well reasoned letter at a time

There's a particular satisfaction in coverage work that litigators in other areas don't always get. You're often the person who decides how a dispute is framed before anyone files anything. Done well, that saves clients real money and earns you a reputation that follows you around the market in a good way.
