About this opportunity

Business Development Associate

Twin Hill Partners | New York, NY | Full-time, on-site

Twin Hill Partners helps private equity firms and independent sponsors find businesses to acquire. We work with 250+ lower middle-market PE firms and independent sponsors, sourcing opportunities across specialty manufacturing, electrical services, fire protection, HVAC, generator services, and other essential industries.

We’re looking for someone who is sharp, personable, and ambitious—someone who enjoys sales, asks good questions, and takes responsibility for getting things done.

The Role

You’ll spend most of your day speaking with business owners: learning how their companies work, understanding their priorities, and determining whether they’re open to an acquisition conversation. These are people who have often spent decades building their businesses. Earning their attention and trust takes preparation, curiosity, and good judgment.

This is a demanding outbound sales role. Expect 5–6 hours of daily dialing, consistent follow-up, and accountability for the qualified opportunities you generate.

This is an “eat what you kill” role: the vast majority of your compensation comes from commission. You should be comfortable with a compensation structure that depends heavily on performance and motivated by having your earnings tied directly to results.

The work requires more than following a script. Owners won’t always give you clear answers. Buyer criteria won’t cover every situation. You’ll need to think on your feet, understand what matters, and decide how to move a conversation forward.

What You’ll Do

  • Reach business owners through outbound calls and thoughtful, persistent follow-up.
  • Build relationships with owners of businesses generating approximately $1M–$15M in EBITDA.
  • Understand each company’s services, size, ownership situation, and potential fit with our clients’ acquisition criteria.
  • Ask direct questions about an owner’s goals, timing, and interest in a potential sale.
  • Keep an accurate pipeline in our AI-assisted CRM and use our dialer tools to stay organized and productive.
  • Use feedback and results to improve your outreach, qualification, and follow-up.

Who You Are

You know how to sell. You can earn someone’s attention, listen closely, handle objections, and ask for a next step. Ideally, you have 1–2+ years of sales experience and evidence that you’ve hit or exceeded your goals.

You’re naturally good with people. You’re comfortable speaking with practical, experienced business owners. You can build rapport without forcing it and be persuasive without being pushy.

You think for yourself. You want to understand why a business fits a buyer’s needs. When a conversation goes off-script, you can ask useful questions and reason through unfamiliar information.

You take initiative. You follow up, solve problems, and move work forward without waiting for someone to tell you what to do. You know when to make a call yourself and when to ask for help.

You want to get better. You’re competitive, receptive to direct feedback, and willing to put in the repetition required to become good at the work.

Experience selling to small or midsize businesses is especially relevant. Backgrounds in brokerage, real estate, insurance, financial services, or M&A can also translate well. Prior M&A experience is helpful, but it isn’t required—we’ll teach you the industry.

Why Twin Hill

You’ll get direct exposure to business owners, acquisition criteria, and how opportunities are sourced for private equity buyers. You’ll have tools that support your work, clear responsibility for your pipeline, and room to contribute ideas as the firm grows.

If you enjoy the daily work of sales and want to learn how businesses are bought and sold, we’d like to hear from you.
