The candidate should have experience developing reliable electronic hardware for medical devices, with an understanding of applicable medical device safety standards, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), design verification, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electronic circuits, schematics, and PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
  • Perform schematic capture, component placement, routing, and PCB design reviews.
  • Develop multilayer PCB layouts for analog, digital, power, and mixed-signal electronic systems.
  • Select electronic components based on technical specifications, availability, reliability, and cost.
  • Prepare and maintain BOMs, Gerber files, assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, software, systems, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Perform signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, and noise analysis as required.
  • Support PCB prototyping, bring-up, debugging, troubleshooting, and hardware testing.
  • Conduct design verification and validation activities and document test results.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable medical device safety, EMC, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments, engineering change orders (ECOs), and configuration management.
  • Work with contract manufacturers and suppliers to resolve PCB fabrication and assembly issues.
  • Maintain traceability of design inputs, outputs, verification evidence, and engineering changes throughout the product development lifecycle.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience in electronic circuit design, PCB development, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuits, microcontrollers, power supplies, sensors, and communication interfaces.
  • Experience with multilayer PCB design, design rules, design rule checks (DRC), and electrical rule checks (ERC).
  • Understanding of PCB fabrication, assembly processes, BOM management, and component lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, logic analyzers, and other electronic testing equipment.
  • Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, datasheets, technical specifications, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience preparing technical documentation and supporting design verification testing.

Medical Device Domain Knowledge

  • Understanding of medical device product development and design control processes.
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601-1 for medical electrical equipment safety and IEC 60601-1-2 for electromagnetic compatibility, where applicable.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14971 risk management principles and design risk analysis.
  • Awareness of IEC 62304 software lifecycle requirements when collaborating on software-controlled medical devices.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 quality management systems and design history documentation.
  • Understanding of electrical safety, isolation, leakage current, grounding, and patient-connected circuitry, where applicable.
  • Experience supporting regulated product development, design verification, validation, and regulatory documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on medical devices, diagnostic equipment, patient monitoring systems, wearable devices, or laboratory instrumentation.
  • Exposure to EMI/EMC testing, signal integrity analysis, and hardware reliability testing.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM), product data management (PDM), and engineering change control systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Key Deliverables

  • Electrical schematics and PCB design files.
  • PCB fabrication and assembly packages.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) and component specifications.
  • Prototype hardware and debugging reports.
  • Design verification and validation test reports.
  • Design review records, risk assessment inputs, and engineering change documentation.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • The ideal candidate will have hands-on Altium Designer experience, strong electronics design fundamentals, and exposure to regulated medical device development. The candidate should be capable of taking electronic hardware designs from concept through prototyping, verification, and manufacturing handover while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
