These individuals and families often face complex immigration processes and require legal guidance to establish a secure future and pursue a pathway to permanent residency and, ultimately, U.S. citizenship.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited law school. Passed the bar exam in the state of residence or New York, and one year of experience working in immigration law. Excellent organizational skills required. Strong communication, research, problem-solving, and writing skills. Be aware of cross-cultural influences when interacting with clients and conduct yourself in a culturally sensitive manner. The ability to be sensitive to victims of trauma is essential. Bilingual candidates preferred.

Position Summary

Provides immigration assistance to individuals, including consultations and representation before USCIS and EOIR. Candidates must have experience assisting with immigration law, handling cases under the supervision of an attorney, or practicing law as an attorney.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist with providing consultations, helping clients complete forms, and preparing them for USCIS interviews as needed.

2. Maintain client immigration files, both paper and electronic, ensuring they are complete and current.

3. Collaborate effectively as part of a team and support colleagues while working to serve the best interests of clients.

4. Assist in supervising legal clinic staff work when needed. Support interns and volunteers in completing their duties and assist the supervising attorney & the CEO with training.

5. Participate in staff development and training opportunities offered by ANSAR to maintain accreditation or licensing requirements.

6. Be attentive to cross-cultural differences when working with clients and behave in a culturally sensitive manner to respond appropriately to their cultural characteristics.

7. Attend all Immigration Department meetings and other required meetings.

8. Assist ANSAR in developing policies, procedures, and best practices as directed by the CEO.

9. Travel with clients to USCIS facilities and court when necessary.

10. Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
