About this opportunity
Republic Affairs is a Washington, DC-based strategic communications firm that helps civic organizations operate with confidence, earn public trust, and advance their missions.
If you follow politics closely, have good instincts for what makes news, and want your work to have an impact, we want to hear from you.
About the role
As a Media Researcher, you’ll track political news as it happens, spot rapid-response opportunities, and help turn what you find into content. You’ll work closely with our communications and creative teams, and you’ll spend much of your day following and consuming political news and events and tracking social media, both for research and for publishing.
The job is mostly media research and rapid response, across multiple projects. When news breaks, we move fast, and this person needs to move with us.
Your responsibilities
- Monitor political news and social media to catch breaking stories and rapid-response opportunities.
- Find past statements, video clips, and records that expose hypocrisy, extremism, or political vulnerability.
- Clip and package footage from events, hearings, and news moments for quick distribution.
- Flag underreported stories that matter to our clients and could shape the broader conversation.
- Work with creative and communications teams to turn research into social content, talking points, and ads.
- Write clean, platform-appropriate copy quickly and on your own.
What we're looking for
- You follow politics because you want to, not because you have to.
- Strong political instincts and a working knowledge of messaging, elections, and the media landscape.
- Experience sourcing or creating content for social media or political ads, ideally including video.
- Fluency across X/Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Bluesky, and a sense of what performs on each.
- Strong, fast writing.
- Ability to juggle multiple news streams and priorities.
- Availability when news breaks, including outside regular hours.
- Ability to be in our downtown DC office five days a week. This is not a remote or hybrid role.
Preferred qualifications
- Background in political research, journalism, campaigns, or social media.
- Comfort using AI tools to speed up research.
- Experience with video editing tools or Adobe Creative Suite.
Why join us
- Base salary range: $55,000 – $75,000
- 100% covered medical insurance
- 401(k) matching program
- Metro-accessible, downtown DC location
- Opportunities to learn, grow, and do work that supports organizations strengthening civic life
In your cover letter, tell us why you are interested in Republic Affairs and how your experience makes you a strong fit for this role. “Easy Apply” is not your friend here. We will consider email applications much more seriously than any Easy Apply submission.
We look forward to hearing from you.
