Metropolitan Center for Mental Health (MCMH) in New York City is seeking an experienced, passionate psychiatrist to serve as its next Medical Director. With the current Medical Director preparing for retirement, this is a rare opportunity to step into an established, fully staffed program with strong organizational support and the freedom to lead, inspire, and make a lasting impact.

For more than 60 years, MCMH has been dedicated to providing accessible, compassionate mental healthcare to New Yorkers, particularly underserved individuals and families who face significant barriers to treatment. Today, this nonprofit Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic serves approximately 2,100 active patients, providing integrated psychiatric care, behavioral health services, and substance use treatment. MCMH is looking for a psychiatrist who genuinely believes in this mission and understands the difference that strong clinical leadership can make in the lives of both patients and providers.

Position Highlights

• Compensation: $280,000 to $350,000, depending on experience and schedule.
• Hybrid Flexibility: Only 2 days onsite at one of MCMH's three locations of your choosing, with remaining workdays remote.
• Flexible Hours: 28 to 35 hours per week considered full-time, with scheduling flexibility to accommodate private practice, teaching, or other professional commitments.
• Leadership Focus: 75% administrative and leadership responsibilities, with only 25% direct patient care.
• Established Team: Lead 11 psychiatric and nursing professionals in a fully staffed department.
• Strong Support: Collaborative executive leadership, dedicated quality assurance resources, and a retiring Medical Director available to assist with the transition.
• Minimal Call: Shared rotation with calls screened by an answering service, typically only a few calls per month.
• Professional Development: Complimentary continuing education through the Relias training platform.

The Psychiatrist We're Looking For

Above all, we're seeking a proven leader who enjoys mentoring clinicians, developing teams, and creating a positive, collaborative work environment. The ideal candidate is a board-certified psychiatrist with an active New York medical license, significant experience managing psychiatric providers, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. A genuine passion for community mental health and serving underserved populations is essential. Experience with Medicaid-based care and outpatient behavioral health is valuable, but prior CCBHC experience is not required.
