About this opportunity

Insurance Defense Associate or Partner | Charleston, SC (Hybrid) | $130,000 to $240,000 | Trucking, Premises, Construction Defect, Product and Professional Liability

Charleston insurance defense attorneys: here you see every claim twice. Once as a coverage question. Once as a lawsuit.

  • I’m Clark Pollins at Distinct Recruitment. I’m recruiting insurance defense litigation attorneys at associate and partner level for a national insurance defense and coverage firm in Charleston, SC.
  • Coverage counsel and defense counsel work in the same firm. You learn how a carrier weighs a claim before it reaches your desk. That makes you sharper at both.
  • The Charleston team is around 20 people, with a strong group of partners. You get a national platform in an office small enough that everyone knows your name.
  • The salary range is wide because this is two hires. Associates come in around $130,000. Partners go up to $240,000.

The files

  • Trucking and transportation
  • Premises liability
  • Construction defect, including disputes between owners, contractors, subs and architects
  • Product liability
  • Professional liability: malpractice and E&O
  • One strong defense background is enough. Nobody expects all five.

If you’re an associate

  • No book needed. The carriers already send the work.
  • Your own files, from first report to resolution or trial.
  • You make the calls and write the reports, so adjusters learn your name.
  • A path to partnership, with partners mentoring you along the way.

If you’re a partner

  • Coverage and defense from one firm. That’s a stronger pitch to the carriers you already work with.
  • A national platform behind your South Carolina practice, in an office of a size you can genuinely shape.
  • Associates and support staff handle the work that doesn’t need you. Your time goes on clients, strategy and trial.
  • Associates to train. What you know about reading adjusters, prepping witnesses and knowing when a case belongs in front of a jury gets passed on.

Why I keep placing people here

  • The average attorney has stayed over five years.
  • I’ve placed several attorneys with this firm across the Carolinas. Every one of them is still there.

How the week runs

  • Billable target of 1,850+ hours, depending on level
  • Depositions, mediations and court appearances
  • Three days in the Charleston office. The other two are yours to plan around hearings, depositions and life.

You’ll bring

  • South Carolina bar admission
  • Associates: 2+ years of insurance defense or civil defense litigation
  • Partners: an established insurance defense practice with carrier relationships
  • Reports an adjuster can read in two minutes and act on
