About this opportunity
Mechanical Engineer (Mission Critical) – Renowned MEP Firm, New York
About the firm
Our client is an established, principal-led architecture, engineering and interior design firm with more than 35 years in practice and offices in New York and Pennsylvania. Its principals stay hands-on in every project, from planning and design through to completion.
Healthcare is one of the firm's core markets. It delivers MEP engineering for some of the largest health systems in the Northeast, with client relationships going back more than 20 years, across hospitals, ambulatory centers, ICUs and specialist clinical suites.
The firm also works in mission critical, life sciences, education and research, so you'll have variety alongside a strong healthcare pipeline.
The role
You will own the mechanical design on the firm's healthcare projects from schematic design through construction administration. Recent work shows the scope: a 165,000 SF ambulatory center, a trauma care ICU and hospital core expansion, cardiac care and cath lab suites, interventional radiology and a pediatric OR.
Because architects, engineers and interior designers sit under one roof, you'll work alongside the design team from day one rather than as a downstream consultant. Expect some travel to hospital sites in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. There is a clear path to Senior Mechanical Engineer, with scope to work on mission critical and life science projects too.
Key responsibilities
- Design HVAC systems for healthcare spaces: ORs, ICUs, isolation rooms, pharmacy (USP 797/800), imaging and labs

- Lead pressurisation, air change and filtration strategies to meet infection-control requirements
- Produce and check drawings, specifications and calculations from SD through CDs
- Coordinate with in-house architects, structural, electrical and plumbing teams in Revit
- Survey existing conditions in occupied hospitals and plan phased, live-environment works

- Guide and review the work of junior engineers and designers
