About this opportunity

Cybersecurity and Privacy Attorney | Washington, DC | $175,000 to $240,000

Privacy lawyers rarely arrive by the same road.

Some came up through healthcare compliance. Some got pulled into their first breach as a second year and never left. Some found privacy through a class action that landed on their desk.

This role doesn’t mind which road you took.

I’m a recruiter at Distinct Recruitment, looking for DC barred cybersecurity and privacy attorneys for the Washington, DC office of a national, full service firm.

Which one sounds like you?

  • The counselor. You build compliance programs, draft the policies, and know HIPAA from CCPA without checking.
  • The first responder. You’ve run incident response, made the notification calls and briefed a board at 7am.
  • The litigator. You’ve defended privacy class actions, breach disputes or regulatory investigations.
  • A mix of the three. Most good privacy lawyers are.

Any of those is a reason to call me.

Why this office

  • The DC team’s core work is government investigations, enforcement defense, government contracts, litigation and IP. Serious privacy problems tend to end up in front of a regulator, so this office is a natural home for them.
  • The firm has served clients across the DMV for decades.
  • National press regularly asks its attorneys for comment, and they speak at conferences in the US and abroad. If you want a name in privacy, the firm has room for you to build one.

What you’ll need

  • A JD and active DC bar admission.
  • Solid experience in cybersecurity, privacy, or both.
  • Confidence advising senior people directly: GCs, CISOs, CTOs and executive teams.
  • Bringing clients? Let me know early, so I can raise it with the firm before you commit to anything.

The package

  • Salary: $175,000 to $240,000. The range is wide because the firm can hire at two levels: a mid level attorney toward the lower end, and a more senior attorney with litigation experience or clients of their own toward the top.
  • Health, dental and vision. 401(k) and profit sharing. Paid vacation and parental leave. A long list of elective benefits on top.
  • Working arrangements to discuss.

Whichever road brought you to privacy, this one leads to a much bigger office.
