Controller

Robert Half is partnering with an established commercial general contractor on a search for a hands-on Controller. This role owns the accounting function and is focused on bringing structure, consistency, and audit readiness to the company’s financial operations. You will lead a small accounting team, work closely with executive leadership, and have real room to grow with the company. This is a permanent, direct-hire role and will require regular on-site work out of their office in the Seattle/Bellevue area.

What You’ll Do

• Own the full accounting cycle, including month-end and year-end close, general ledger, and financial statements
• Manage WIP reporting and keep the ERP and project management systems aligned
• Oversee job costing, contract accounting, and revenue recognition for commercial construction projects
• Build, document, and improve processes and internal controls for consistent clean audits
• Serve as the main point of contact for the annual external audit
• Lead and develop the accounting team across subcontractor billing and payables, vendor AP, and payroll
• Manage multi-state tax compliance and oversee payroll accounting, including union payroll
• Prepare timely financial and management reports
• Partner with leadership on forecasting and continuous improvement

What You Bring

• Controller-level experience in commercial construction
• Strong hands-on accounting skills with a solid command of WIP and job costing
• Advanced Excel
• Track record of building processes and systems that lead to clean audits
• Multi-state tax and union payroll experience preferred
• Direct, confident, and solutions-focused
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA a plus

• Base salary of $150K to $185K, depending on experience
