Job Title: Engineering Project Manager, Water/Wastewater (Commercial & Contracts)

Location: Remote USA

Program: Water/Wastewater Program

Job Summary

This is an external, client-facing project management role for an engineer with a foundation in civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering. The focus for this role will be on industrial water reuse, waste heat recovery, non-freshwater based equipment cooling, and advanced water quality solutions. This role requires a confident self-starter with a bias towards action and a willingness to learn quickly and adapt in a high-pace work environment with limited oversight. The successful candidate will have the requisite background in water, wastewater, or industrial process systems to satisfy the responsibilities of the job. The applicant should possess exceptional organizational and communication skills, including the ability to effectively initiate and lead cross-functional team meetings. There is considerable latitude offered and expected for independent judgment and robust support for actions related to program objectives and risk mitigation.

This role sits between engineering and the commercial side of the business. We value finance and deal experience and technical depth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide commercial, industrial, and municipal clients with project management services, leveraging engineering expertise to deliver water, cooling, and heat reuse programs that enhance business value.
  • Lead client projects across four primary focus areas:
  1. Alternative cooling: Evaluate and design cooling systems that use brackish, reclaimed, or other non-potable water sources.
  2. Advanced water sourcing and design: Structure water supply deals and agreements, and lead design of reuse and treatment systems.
  3. Heat reuse: Develop waste heat recovery solutions in advance of anticipated regulatory requirements.
  4. Water quality program: Build and manage a water quality enhancement program, including advanced water chemistry and treatment.
  • Prepare contracts, develop rough order magnitude (ROM) cost and schedule estimates, secure permits, obtain landowner agreements, establish purveyor relationships, facilitate municipal agreements and relationships, and oversee construction projects.
  • Support deal structuring, financial analysis, and due diligence for water supply agreements, project financing, partnerships, and acquisitions.
  • Scope and facilitate engineering studies and research projects to accomplish and inform company and client objectives, including:
  1. Evaluate existing systems and recommend operational or capital improvements to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  2. Prepare permitting and regulatory compliance documents for water and wastewater use cases (NPDES, 404/401, USACE, Water Rights, etc.)
  • Serve client goals by providing cross-functional tools, insights, and experience to develop all phases of infrastructure projects with varied client teams.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assemble and organize data and analytics to support further development of SAAS tools owned or managed by the company.
  • Preposition project and program work for success by leveraging a risk-management approach to development planning.
  • Support marketing efforts and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering, plus 5+ years of experience. A minor, second degree, or MBA in economics, finance, or business is a strong plus.
  • Required: Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts (EPC, design-build, water supply, or service agreements)
  • Required: Experience building cost estimates, project budgets, or financial models for capital projects, and tracking costs against them
  • Required: Deal experience in finance, mergers and acquisitions, project finance, or commercial transactions (due diligence, valuation, term sheets, deal structuring)
  • Background in water, wastewater, cooling, or industrial process systems
  • Experience in oil and gas, refining, utilities, or large industrial operations is a strong plus
  • PE preferred, or able to obtain one

While we appreciate the depth of knowledge that advanced degrees provide, we're equally excited by candidates who demonstrate a strong entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to think outside the box.

  • Professional licensure (PE) preferred, or the ability to obtain it.
  • Proficiency in industry relevant software and tools.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from individuals who are authorized to work in the U.S.
