Senior Technical Accountant

ISC’s team of Hospitality Recruiters is partnering with a leading developer of retirement communities on a Senior Technical Accountant opportunity in their home office. This rapidly growing company is not only well known for developing, owning and managing campus-style communities across 10+ states, but also providing a positive and supportive workplace for their internal employees. In this role you will be responsible for. The Senior Technical Accountant will report onsite in the Baltimore, MD area during onboarding and then WFH 2 days a week thereafter.

In this engaging SeniorTechnical Accountant opportunity, you will play a key role in authoring technical accounting memos, conducting research, analyzing legal agreements, supporting regulatory reporting, and more. The ideal SeniorTechnical Accountant is an emerging leader who supports other staff members with training, development, and reviewing work for necessary corrections or revisions. A Senior Technical Accountant with proven hands-on technical accounting experience is a strong fit for this role.

SeniorTechnical Accountant Requirements- To qualify, you should have the following:

• 5+ years’ technical accounting experience including Big 4 public accounting and/or technical accounting and financial reporting roles with at least 2 years directly managing consolidations, lease accounting, related-party transactions, and joint ventures.
• CPA, required.
• Previous exposure to reading different types of agreements, lease accounting, related parties, required.
• Must have independently authored technical accounting memos from beginning to end, including research, analysis, and conclusions. Simply reviewing or assisting with memos is not sufficient.
• Solid understanding of US GAAP, including FASB Standards and Accounting Standards Codification.
• Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) required, and Workiva and Black Lone strongly desired.
• Previous experience with real estate/CCRC industry exposure, preferred.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and communications skills, with keen ability to quickly pinpoint discrepancies and troubleshoot solutions.

SeniorTechnical Accountant Responsibilities- Duties for this role are:

• Independently author technical accounting memos.
• Research, interpret, and document complex accounting matters through technical accounting memoranda, including consolidation and deconsolidation, business combinations and common-control transactions, revenue recognition, lease accounting, and related-party transactions.
• Review/analyze contracts and legal agreements, including leases, management agreements, loan documents, and joint venture operating agreements, to assess accounting treatment and identify key financial reporting implications.
• Prepare comprehensive accounting position papers, supporting schedules, materiality analyses, and accounting error assessments to support technical conclusions and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Perform consolidation-related activities, including preparing consolidation analyses, elimination entries, noncontrolling interest calculations, equity method accounting schedules, and consolidated statements of cash flows.
• Prepare and review annual and interim financial statements, footnote disclosures, and other external and internal financial reporting deliverables.
• Coordinate external audit activities by responding to auditor requests and preparing supporting schedules, technical accounting documentation, and other audit-related materials.
• Provide accounting transaction analysis to support acquisitions, dispositions, financing arrangements, restructurings, and new business ventures.
• Identify, evaluate, and document internal control considerations associated with complex transactions, accounting judgments, and financial reporting conclusions.
• Support entity-level and regulatory reporting obligations, including the preparation and submission of state continuing care reporting requirements.
