Pacific Pride Foundation seeks an experienced part-time nonprofit accountant to manage day-to-day accounting, produce reliable financial reports, and help leadership plan for the year ahead. This role works closely with the Executive Director and Finance Committee and supports the financial oversight of our programs, grants, fundraising, and events.

Key responsibilities

Accounting and monthly close

  • Maintain the general ledger and complete monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review and accurately record contributions, grants, program revenue, payroll entries, invoices, and expenses.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoice tracking, payment preparation, and follow-up on outstanding balances. Payments remain subject to authorized approval.
  • Record accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other month-end adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain organized supporting documentation and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Financial reporting and planning

  • Prepare the monthly financial report for the Executive Director and board, including financial statements, budget-to-actual comparisons, cash position, and explanations of significant variances.
  • Develop and maintain cash flow projections to help leadership anticipate obligations and plan reserves.
  • Lead creation of the annual organizational budget with the Executive Director and department leaders, including budget worksheets, assumptions, draft revisions, and reports for Finance Committee and board review.
  • Provide financial analysis that helps leadership understand program and event costs and make informed decisions.

Nonprofit funds and compliance

  • Track restricted and unrestricted contributions, grant expenditures, releases from restriction, and available grant balances.
  • Support accurate allocation of shared expenses across programs, administration, and fundraising.
  • Reconcile fundraising and event revenue and expenses, including the annual Pride Festival.
  • Prepare schedules and records for the annual audit or financial review and Form 990 preparation; coordinate with outside professionals as needed.
  • Support year-end close, required tax reporting such as 1099s, and payroll-related accounting in coordination with the appropriate service providers.
  • Help maintain written accounting procedures and internal controls, including clear documentation and separation of payment preparation from approval.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting, restricted contributions, and grant tracking.
  • Experience preparing monthly financial statements and organizational budgets.
  • Strong reconciliation skills and proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit audits, Form 990, and functional expense reporting.
  • Ability to explain financial results clearly to staff and board members who do not work in accounting.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, organization, and commitment to meeting reporting deadlines.

Experience with grant-funded programs and large fundraising events is especially helpful.

Schedule and compensation

This position averages 10–15 hours per week at $50 per hour. Hours may vary around monthly close, annual budgeting, and year-end reporting. Work arrangements and employment details will be discussed with finalists.
