About this opportunity

Republic Affairs is a Washington, DC-based strategic communications firm that helps civic organizations operate with confidence, earn public trust, and advance their missions.

If you are a fast, sharp editor who follows the news closely, thinks in narratives, and wants your work to support organizations doing meaningful work in the world, this role is for you.

About the role

As our newest video hire, you will join our communications team and work closely with our strategists and client-facing staff. You should bring strong editorial instincts and the ability to turn complex institutional moments into clear, compelling, social-first video. The core of the job is podcast production, but this is not a narrow role. You will contribute across a range of content formats and client needs.

Your responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end podcast production, including editing full-length episodes for YouTube with multi-cam setups, graphics, and audio cleanup.
  • Cut and optimize short-form clips and verticals from podcast content for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok, and other platforms, with editorial judgment about what to clip, how to frame it, and where it belongs.
  • Transform scripts and messaging guidance from our communications team into visually compelling content that aligns with client goals, including short-form narratives and social content optimized for web, TV, and social platforms.
  • Cut long-form interviews (1.5+ hours) into tight, narrative-driven videos and distinct social clips.
  • Monitor the news cycle to rapidly source footage and produce timely, relevant content.
  • Create thumbnails and write video titles that are accurate, on-brand, and built to perform.
  • Maintain organized project files, assets, and archives.

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years of professional video editing or production experience.
  • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
  • Ability to source footage, clean and mix dialogue, and color-correct for web and social.
  • Familiarity with Riverside or similar podcast recording platforms.
  • Genuine interest in politics, policy, and civic life. You follow the news and understand the context behind what you’re editing.
  • Strong familiarity with vertical video formats, platform trends, and what is actually breaking through in today's media environment.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • This role is based in Washington, DC. We have a strong preference for candidates who can be in the office regularly, but are open to hybrid arrangements for the right candidate.

Preferred qualifications

  • Comfort using AI tools to speed up and sharpen production workflows.
  • Background in political campaigns, advocacy, journalism, nonprofit communications, or media.

Why join us

  • Base salary range: $60,000 – $95,000
  • 100% covered medical insurance
  • 401(k) matching program
  • Metro-accessible, downtown DC location
  • Opportunities to learn, grow, and do work that supports organizations strengthening civic life

We look forward to hearing from you.
